چکیده

Quantifying landscape pattern and its change is essential for the monitoring and assessment of ecological consequences of land use change and human interference. The changing characteristics of landscape structure in the Haihe River Basin (HRB), China, during 1990 to 2000 were detected by using satellite remote sensing based land use data. Key landscape indices were selected to characterize the landscape patterns. The results showed that from 1990 to 2000, the landscape within the study area has undertaken a complicated transformation in landscape structure and composition. A notable decrease in cropland mainly due to conversion to built-up land. Spatial distribution of different patches became more separated and the patch types became more disaggregated. Additionally, we found that both Shannon’s diversity index and Shannon’s evenness index increased during the periods, manifesting the landscapes in the study area became more fragmented and heterogeneous under intensive exploitation and reconstruction of landscape by human beings. The environmental effects of landscape change were also discussed.

Effect of land-use patterns on total nitrogen concentration in the upstream regions of the Haihe River Basin, China.

Nutrient loading into rivers is generally increased by human-induced land-use changes and can lead to increased surface water pollution. Understanding the extent to which land-use patterns influence nutrient loading is critical to the development of best-management practices aimed at water-quality improvement. In this study, we investigated total nitrogen (total N) concentration as a function o...

Sunshine Duration Variability in Haihe River Basin, China, during 1966–2015

Sunshine can have a profound impact on the systematic change in climate elements, such as temperature and wind speed, and in turn affects many aspects of the human society. In recent years, there has been a substantial interest in the variation of sunshine duration due to the dramatic global climate change. Hence, there is a need to better understand the variation of sunshine duration in order ...

Water, environment and food security: a case study of the Haihe River basin in China

The Haihe River basin is one of the most developed regions in China. With the rapid economic development and associated increases in water demand, the river basin has been enduring increasing water stress. Water for the ecosystem use has been compromised and the environment has been deteriorating. Water shortage has become a bottleneck to the further development of the economy and grain product...

Data collected in an integrated ecological survey of rotifer communities and corresponding environmental variables in the highly polluted Haihe River Basin, China

Here we presented two datasets (biological and environmental datasets) collected in a comprehensive large geographical scale (approximately 1.1×105 km2) survey of rivers/streams in the Haihe River Basin (HRB), which has become the most polluted river basin in past two decades in China. The survey selected a total of 94 representative sampling sites in the plain region of HRB, where environmenta...

Landscape evolution in the Yellow River Basin using satellite remote sensing and GIS during the past decade

Over the past decade, rapid landscape pattern change has taken place in many arid and semi-arid regions of China, such as the Yellow River Basin. In this paper, landscape evolution was investigated by the combined use of satellite remote sensing, geographic information system (GIS) and landscape modelling technologies. The aim was to improve our understanding of landscape changes so that sustai...
